Genetic Parameter Estimates of Growth Curve and Feed Efficiency Traits in Japanese Quail

This study aimed to estimate heritabilities for weekly body weight traits, the Gompertz growth curve parameters, and feed efficiency characteristics, as well genetic correlations among characteristics. A total of 700 Japanese quails with pedigree records were used in this study. Body consumption measured individually on a basis. Using data, model parameters estimated each bird using nonlinear regression model. Multi-trait variance-covariance matrices obtained Bayesian inference Gibbs sampler. While estimates high heritability (0.59 0.61) found moderate (0.23 0.37) determined intake conversion traits. The inflection point coordinates (0.37 0.47). between characteristics positive (0.28 0.49), traits strong (0.52 0.83). It has been concluded that negative relationship may constrain selection studies. Due weak correlation asymptotic parameter efficiency, it is thought gain will be greater if mature also criterion improvement
